I have read many articles about Building a Brighter Future. I have read things such as:
• Better child care.
• Programs to help the second chance learner.
I seldom read anything about building a brighter future by using seniors.
The younger generations seem to think that we have had our day in the sun. We might be good for a donation or two, but generally they cannot see that a well cared for senior population can reap untold benefits.
So let’s focus on a brighter future for seniors. Seniors are actually a country’s greatest asset, and an asset that many countries around the world fail to appreciate. Why?
I am going to bring out that cope word, with some slightly different spelling. KOPE is an acronym for Knowledge, Organisation skills, Planning skills and Experience.
Let’s look at each letter in that acronym KOPE:
• Knowledge — Seniors typically have a lot of knowledge. This is very useful in today’s knowledge age and global economy.
• Organisation skills – seniors are typically very good organizers. A good deal of this organization skill has been developed over the years, because it has been necessary.
• Planning skills – seniors have been faced with many situations and problems. In order to work through these situations or solve these problems, they have needed planning skills.
• Experience – seniors definitely have experience, and it is good to be able to fall back on experience in life in order to cope with situations.
Yes, seniors can KOPE.
As we look to build a brighter future, think about this acronym K.O.P.E. The foundation for a brighter future is seniors.
There will be many of you who scorn. There is a solution for you scorners who don’t like to listen. Here it is. The key to a brighter future is people who can KOPE. You can either tap into a readily available gold mine which is your senior population, or else you must develop skills in:
• Knowledge
• Organisation
• Planning
• Experience
Education becomes the key.
So if we want a brighter future, the key is either Seniors or Education. Try to choose wisely. One of these options is easier and a lot less work than the other — and more accurate too!
