Life is about love, joy, and laughter. The people that find it difficult to live life in such a manner just don’t know how to do it. There are many ways to do so, however, we have broken down the 5 simplest methods to be happier and improve your quality of life.
Optimism
According to the Mayo Clinic, cultivating optimism is vital to our overall happiness. Stopping broken thoughts is the key to increasing our optimism. Broken thoughts are harmful, but not big enough to fall under the category of bad habits. They often take their form in justifications, such as I’ll bookmark this to read later, knowing you’ll never read it, or I’ll iron that shirt later, knowing it will sit there until you’re about to wear it.
Do What You Love
Recognize what it is that makes you happy and reflect on moments that bring you satisfaction. The Mayo Clinic suggests that we should find our purpose and live in the moment. If everyone is working towards something, so are you- but forget success and consider what brings you real happiness. Consider your daily life and rate its quality on a scale of 1 to 10. Ensure that you focus on those things that push the number higher, instead of focusing on the negatives.
Take those things that made you happy and work them into your life every day. We waste our entire life by being preoccupied with problems, rather than doing things we are passionate about. To live well, we must do activities that bring us satisfaction. Otherwise, we will feel sad and burdened. It doesn’t have to earn you money to make you happy.
Nature
Most of us spent a lot of time outdoors during childhood. We climbed trees, swam in the ocean or a lake, and listened to birds singing. We were at one with nature regularly. Then we grew up and our lives moved indoors, we work in offices and lost our earthly connection. It’s had a negative impact on our mental and physical health.
Being close to nature can make us healthier and happier, so find time to hit the outdoors. Even if it’s just once a week, spending time in natural surroundings provides us with time to feel refreshed and calm yourself.
Healthy Life
Eating healthy is vital to our physical and mental health. Rather than spending money on gadgets, consider what you spend on nutritious food? Think of your body as a vehicle, it’s going to guide you through your entire life.
To keep it ticking over, it needs to be treated well which means that in addition to exercise, you must eat a healthy, balanced diet. Eat the best foods that you can afford to buy. Ideally, plenty of plant based organic foods, and drinking lots of water.
Additionally, find time to meditate. This allows you time with your thoughts and time to focus on all of your emotions. Meditation is excellent for mental health, which in turn influences your overall quality of life.
Learn New Things
Stimulating your mind by learning new things provides both purpose and enjoyment. Pick topics that you don’t know anything about and learn all that you can. Make notes on what you’ve learned to improve retention.
You can also improve retention by sharing your new knowledge with others. Your brain learns new patterns as you take time out to learn something new every day. If you’re looking for inspiration on what to learn about, read a newspaper or find out what social media is talking about.
